Whether used in high-throughput automotive lines or complex industrial environments, the RB 1000i-S provides reliable, repeatable performance with advanced control over film thickness, droplet size, and spray pattern.
Integrated seamlessly with ABB’s robotic systems and software, it enables smarter paint processes that deliver consistent results and lower total cost of ownership.
How does it offer improved performance? >>
At the heart of the RB 1000i-S is a turbine-driven rotary bell system optimized for minimal paint loss. Enabling precise control over droplet size and spray pattern, it ensures uniform coverage and film build even on complex geometries. Offering transfer efficiency levels of up to 95 percent, it reduces the risk of runs, sags, or uneven coating to achieve a superior surface finish with less rework.
Capable of reaching bell speeds of up to 40,000 RPM and high paint flow, the RB 1000i-S enables cycle times to be maintained with the same number of painting robots and higher throughput compared to conventional atomizers, without compromising accuracy.

One of the most significant challenges in achieving high transfer efficiency is managing overspray, paint that misses the target surface and becomes airborne. This leads to material waste, increased costs, booth contamination, and higher maintenance due to paint buildup on filters and surfaces.
The RB 1000i-S atomizer offers up to 95% transfer efficiency and a 20% improvement in transfer performance compared to its predecessor, the RB 1000i, significantly reducing overspray. Its optimized bell cup design and fine droplet control ensure more paint reaches the target surface, minimizing waste.
Airflow plays a critical role in guiding atomized paint to the part. Irregular or turbulent air patterns can deflect paint particles, causing uneven application and reducing the amount of paint that adheres to the surface.
Pattern control technology ensures the correct application of paint to the surface. This is particularly important for smaller and / or narrow parts where the ability to reduce the pattern to the correct size will help to minimize the impact of airflows, significantly reducing paint waste.

The physical properties of the paint, especially viscosity and solids content, affect how well it atomizes. Paint that is too thick may not atomize effectively, while paint that is too thin can lead to excessive overspray, both negatively impacting transfer efficiency and finish quality.
The RB 1000i-S is designed to handle a wide range of paint viscosities with precision atomization, ensuring consistent particle sizes to achieve a high-quality coating performance regardless of paint formulation.
The design and condition of atomizers greatly influences how paint is distributed. Outdated or poorly maintained equipment may produce inconsistent droplet sizes or turbulent spray patterns, leading to inefficient paint application.
The RB 1000i-S incorporates advanced material coatings and a redesigned internal flow path that optimize paint atomization. Its high-speed rotating bell ensures uniform droplet size and efficient paint delivery.
Particle consistency
Robotic arms must follow precisely programmed paths with accurate angles, distances, and speeds. Inefficient or poorly optimized programming can result in uneven coverage, excessive overspray, and lower first-pass yields, requiring rework.
When used with ABB’s RobotStudio® simulation software, the RB 1000i-S enables users to model, program, and refine paint paths virtually, ensuring accurate trajectories, optimal spray angles, and efficient coverage before physical deployment.
Automotive components often have intricate geometries, including curves, recesses, and sharp edges. These features can be difficult to coat uniformly, making it challenging to maintain consistent transfer efficiency across the entire surface.
The RB 1000i-S provides precise control over spray width and droplet formation, allowing it to navigate intricate geometries with high accuracy. Combined with customizable motion profiles, it ensures even coverage across all surfaces.
